When Can I Get an Abortion in Tennessee?

January 18, 2022 by Full Circle

Facing an unexpected pregnancy can feel overwhelming. If you are considering an abortion, you may feel that time is not on your side. It is important to know what the laws are for your state and just what that means for you. Every state is different and Tennessee is no exception.

How early can I get an abortion in Tennessee?

The evolution of home pregnancy tests has allowed women to find out they may be pregnant much sooner than they did when abortion access was first signed into law. Because of that, most abortions are performed at 8 weeks or earlier. If you are considering a medication abortion, the abortion pill is FDA-approved up to 10 weeks after your last menstrual period.

How late can I get an abortion in Tennessee?

In Tennessee, abortion is legal up until the point of viability. Viability means the fetus can survive outside the womb and is typically considered between twenty-four and twenty-eight weeks after a woman’s last menstrual period.

If I am more than 24 weeks along, what are my options?

If you think you are more than twenty-four weeks along, or past the cut-off of viability, you are most likely past the time to get a legal abortion in Tennessee. However, you still have options. The first step is to confirm exactly how far along you are at our center. We can explore all the options for a late-term unexpected pregnancy and help you plan your next steps.

What should I do next?

Regardless of how far along you may be, the first step is to have an ultrasound to verify exactly how far along you are. At your appointment, you can get the facts and information you need about types of abortions and explore all your pregnancy options in a private and professional environment. All our services are offered at no cost to you.

Because we do not financially benefit from any decision that you make, we do not perform or refer for abortions, TelAbortions, or the abortion pill. Contact us to learn more.

You do not have to do this alone. We are here for you; call and make an appointment today.
